THE CAMPAIGN

Led by the communities impacted by Coca-Cola in India, the International Campaign to Hold Coca-Cola Accountable works to apply pressure on the Coca-Cola company as well as the Indian government to meet the demands of the communities impacted by Coca-Cola’s operations.

Working at the local, national and international levels, the campaign works with a wide range of constituencies and uses a variety of methods to challenge Coca-Cola’s practices in India.

Community organizing, led by farmers and women in India, has been central to the growing success of the campaign to hold Coca-Cola accountable.  Thousands of people have regularly marched and rallied to demand the closure of the bottling plants.outoforder2

The community campaigns in India have enjoyed tremendous support from allies in India and internationally.

Internationally, the campaign has worked with the media to highlight the abuses of the Coca-Cola company, including mainstream media outlets such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, BBC and Al Jazeera.

Activists in the US, the home country of the Coca-Cola company, have attended and spoken out at Coca-Cola shareholders meeting for the last six years, including introducing shareholder resolutions.

The campaign also works with the socially responsible investment community to successfully make the case that the Coca-Cola company engages in unethical practices in India.  Part of this work has involved working closely with faith based communities across the world who also define access to water as a fundamental human right and a moral obligation.

Students around the world have been some of the most vocal supporters of the campaign, with over 20 colleges and universities in the US, UK, Canada and Norway taking action against the Coca-Cola company.  We have spoken and worked with students at over 100 colleges and universities internationally.

The campaign has been very successful in using online campaigning to educate the public about the campaign and get them to take action.

Taking direct action against Coca-Cola has also been a key component of the campaign, both in India and internationally.

Networking with other groups and individuals working on a variety of issues including human rights, environmental justice, women’s rights, climate change, corporate accountability, fair trade and water rights has been instrumental in the success of the campaign so far.

The campaign continues to regularly challenge the government authorities in India to do what they are supposed to do – protect the public interest.

The International Campaign to Hold Coca-Cola Accountable is constantly working to educate and agitate the general public globally about Coca-Cola’s crimes in India – so that people Think Before They Drink Coca-Cola.

The International Campaign to Hold Coca-Cola Accountable is one of the leading campaigns globally today that asserts the right of communities over natural resources and demands that corporate and private interests must be secondary to the rights of communities.

The International Campaign to Hold Coca-Cola Accountable is always seeking new partners to strengthen the campaign for human rights and environmental justice.
